The CNR Montelibretti Centre is celebrating Fascination of Plants Day 2026: a journey through science, nature and innovation.
Nature walks, interactive workshops and research experts to introduce schools to the wonders of the plant world.

MONTELIBRETTI (RM) – To mark Fascination of Plants Day 2026, which is celebrated internationally every year on 18 May to highlight the importance and beauty of plants, the Rome 1 Regional Research Area of the National Research Council (ARRM1 in Montelibretti) is opening its doors with an event called “PLANT EXPERIENCE”, a day entirely dedicated to exploring the plant kingdom and promoting cross-disciplinary scientific research.
The event, which will take place on 19 May, forms part of the prestigious international initiative organised by EPSO (European Plant Science Organisation). The aim is to raise awareness, particularly among the younger generation, of the crucial importance of plants for our future: from food security and environmental sustainability to the protection of biodiversity and the latest biotechnological innovations.
The programme for the 2026 edition offers a dynamic and immersive experience for secondary school pupils: a nature walk within the Research Area, designed as an exploratory journey where science ‘comes to life’; demonstration workshop stands, featuring live experiments and direct dialogue with researchers tackling global challenges in the plant sector. In addition to the outdoor activities, the ARRM1 conference hall will host interactive talks delivered by researchers from the Area’s scientific community, offering food for thought on the impact of research on everyday life.
The event is not only aimed at secondary school pupils, but will also actively involve all staff within the department, providing an opportunity for exchange and the development of internal skills.
“PLANT EXPERIENCE” represents a key opportunity for sharing and scientific development. Through direct contact with nature and dialogue with those who practise science on a daily basis, young people’s curiosity will be stimulated and the scientific activities carried out across a wide range of fields within the Montelibretti Research Area will be highlighted.
