How to Integrate Conservation and Management. The closing event of the LIFE SPAN project.
At the end of the project’s six-year run, LIFE SPAN is organizing a closing event to present the activities carried out, the results achieved, and possible future developments. The event“Saproxylic Biodiversity in Forests – How to Integrate Conservation and Management,”to be held in June 2026 in Cansiglio, aims to go beyond the scope of a single project by involving experts capable of outlining the state of the art on this topic at the national and European levels.
The event will take place on June 23 and 24 in Pian del Cansiglio (Belluno), featuring two days of activities consisting of a conference (June 23 – Hangar Cansiglio) and a hike in the woods (June 24).
The Project LIFE SPAN project, coordinated by Bruno De Cinti, a researcher at the Institute for Terrestrial Ecosystem Research (Montelibretti campus), has developed and tested management solutions designed to safeguard forest biodiversity, with a particular focus on saproxylic biodiversity. Through an innovative approach to forest planning and management—always with an eye toward the economic sustainability of the proposed measures—management proposals aimed at conserving habitats and species of Community interest associated with deadwood have been implemented and monitored.
